10 Ways to be Kind this Week

This week is world kindness week and with Thanksgiving around the corner what a better way to celebrate this week than by shining a light. Many times we tend to get upset at the rude people we encounter (me I honk like crazy-so bad I know) they need help. I find it, it can go two ways, they ruin your day or you improve theirs.

I vote for number two. As Christian this weighs on me so much. I’m not at my best many times and that’s what I show people. This is not to say that we need to be happy 24/7/365 no not at all, but the moment that we let our emotions take control we tend to lose sight of God and ourselves. So today I want to share 1o easy ways we can show kindness this week and pretty much every day of the year.

  1. Pay it Forward. Whatever drive-thru lane you are in pay for the person behind you.
  2. Compliment, Compliment, Compliment. There have been times where I’m feeling pretty lousy and a compliment lifts me up immediately. (FREE)
  3. Smile, just smile. A smile can brighten anyone’s day  (FREE)
  4. Offer the person behind you in line your spot if they seem rushed. (FREE)
  5. Give a homeless person a hot drink or money. I know many frown at this but honestly, if I give them money I’m honoring God. Whether they need it or not is not for me to judge.
  6. Pay the difference if the person in front of seems short.
  7. Write an old fashion thank-you note. I love anything handwritten.
  8. Pray for those around you. They may not see the change immediately but God works in wondrous ways.
  9. Let that special person know just how special they are. I love getting my husband his favorite snack. It’s very little but I love to see his reaction when he sees them. (gummy bears)
  10. Lastly, ask someone how they are doing and really listen. Many times people just need someone to listen to them.

Just an extra….

11. As a blogger I think this is very important, be kind online. Would you say whatever it is you are saying to your kids o even in front of them? No, right! Always always be nice.

Creating a good relationship with Technology

This post is sponsored by Google. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I grew up in Cuba, which is basically 20 or so years behind in technology. I remember the first time I shared a picture of me as a baby and everyone looked at it funny since it’s in black and white. When we came to the US in 2000 it was a different world, and a few years later I had my first phone. A tiny little phone that gave me 200 text messages and free talk after 8 pm. Remember those days?

Yup, those days are long gone, giving us a great amount of technology in the swipe of a finger, which great but in Spanish there is a saying

TODO EN EXCESO ES MALO

which means

EVERYTHING IN EXCESS IS BAD

So how do find control and create a good relationship with technology?

As a blogger, I work off my phone and computer, as a mom I believe in educational apps and as a woman, I love to relax watching a show or viewing Pinterest. Who doesn’t right?! But I find ways to balance it, to create control for my family and me.

I have teamed up with Google to share  3 tools we can have control and create a good relationship with technology for the whole family based off their Digital Wellbeing

1. Gmail Autoreply and Priority box.

I want to live by “do as I say and do ” and if I’m constantly on my phone or laptop there is no way I’m setting that example for my girls. I love that Gmail has this tool helping me focus only on what’s important. This way I can finish the emails that need my immediate attention first, cutting my time in half if not more.

2. AutoPlay control on Youtube.

This has been a saving grace for us. I won’t lie, we give Bella our phone to watch Christian music videos and playdoh stories and if we let her she could be there all day long. Again here is where the control takes comes in and thanks to this tool we have a choice.

3. Family link app.

This is probably one of my favorites. It allows us to set time limits, block specific stuff and more than anything allows us to shut down. It’s so important as a busy family to shut down. To stop the noise and enjoy the silence.

There is so much more and you can check here and see how Google Digital Wellbeing is changing the game! This week we will be working on a “OFF ” basket. Where we place our phones, tablets and all electronics there and enjoy each other. I’m so happy Google is taking the driver seat on this  “Digital Wellbeing” and reminding families what’s truly important. Tell me what’s you favorite tool?

Easy Coffee Tres Leches

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone

#NestleTraditionallyUnited #CollectiveBias

If there is something I love, it is making dessert, as many of you already know! Cooking takes a little more effort but there’s something about making a dessert that takes me to my happy place. Now, being pregnant and cooking is another thing, whether making dessert or not, so I’ve come up with a few shortcuts to make the things I love on little time. Great for the holidays, right!?  Today I want to re-create one of my family’s favorites, one that they have been asking for a while, my coffee tres leches. In Cuba, we don’t have tres leches or condensed milk but both have been favorites since coming to the US. Making the actual cake for this recipe is one of the longest processes since it can’t be done on a stand mixer and must be done by hand, but this mama has figured out a way to skip a little of the process and enjoy a delicious cake around loved ones. Maybe this is why I love postres (desserts) so much, it brings our family around the table, eating something sweet paired with a delicious cup of coffee or hot chocolate. So are you ready for an easy and fast postre?

Here is what you need: 1 can of NESTLÉ® LA LECHERA® Sweetened Condensed Milk,  1 can of evaporated milk,  6oz of your favorite coffee, 1 small carton of heavy whipping cream, your choice of cake. *On this I have used regular store bought pound cake, pound cake, or if you have time you can use a homemade cake* All of these ingredients can be found at your local Walmart!

Processed with VSCO with a6 preset

Directions:

Once you have the actual cake the process is pretty easy. Mix NESTLÉ® LA LECHERA® Sweetened Condensed milk, evaporated milk, whipping cream and coffee of your choice. Let this sit for about 20 mins allowing the coffee to give its flavor. While the 3 types of milk sit, poke holes in your cake to allow for max absorption. This is what makes the cake deliciously moist. Pour the milk mix into the cake pan and refrigerate for 30 minutes to 1 hour. You can do this while you finish getting ready or melting some NESTLÉ® ABUELITA® for un chocolatico con leche. (hot cocoa) To top of your cake take out your hand mixer or stand mixer and whip out the whipping cream and spread over your cake. If you want to make it a little fancy add a few chocolate shavings to top your delicious cake. Now to the eating part! Of course, baby girl’s favorite part, if you know what I mean. Sitting with my people, enjoying a delicious Tres Leches cake with coffee or hot cocoa.

This is what the holidays mean to me. Spending time with mi familia, the people that make me smile and make my heart beat a little faster. Now you tell me, what is your favorite dessert or shortcut? Want to try make it for your loved ones? Here is all you need!

Why we choose not to celebrate Halloween

Hey guys,

Today, being October 31st I wanted to share our reasoning for not celebrating Halloween. I know many will pull out the religious card and it’s true, but every year I get asked why we don’t partake in this “holiday” and today I wanted to take the time to explain as to why.

I came from Cuba almost 20 years ago and we come to find many new traditions and Halloween was one of them. In Cuba, we don’t have Halloween, Thanksgiving and we do Christmas a whole lot different. I will go into details on another post but I have teamed up with a close friend to share our view on Halloween.

As a 9 year in a new country, where candy was so good and different my first Halloween was hard. I saw my friends dressing up, talking about where they were going and kids ring the doorbell a lot, as I stayed inside. It was hard and I didn’t quite understand it so when I asked my mom why we didn’t celebrate it she answered honestly, or in her view.

She said we didn’t celebrate the devil.

I didn’t quite understand it until I was older and our church started showing us why. Is not what my mom said entirely, but it is, as a matter of fact, a day where people with very bad intentions take advantage of. I won’t go into the history of Halloween but I invite all of you on the other side of the screen to read it. Take a few minutes and look at the story of Halloween and how it started but more than anything this post is to answer the many questions.

So let’s gets started…

I have never in my 28 years of life celebrated a Halloween. We use to sit at home watch TV and turn our porch light off. People still rang the doorbell but we ignored it.

I have never gotten dressed.

I have never gone out to trick -or -treating.

My husband and I are both on the same page.

Our daughter, while a minor, will also follow this.

When Bella and baby sissy get older, Lester and I will sit down with them and explain what we were taught and why we choose for our family not to be involved. I won’t lie, at times this year it has been hard since most of the shows Bella watches have episodes of Halloween and it’s hard to teach a 3-year-old about it.

We decided to tell her we don’t like it and we don’t watch it. She is not interested in dressing up or anything related to it as she has never been involved.

I get it, this may not be for many people and to each their own. For us, this is how we do it.

Our church makes it a lot easier since today we have a Jesus Festival. We don’t bash Halloween, our kids don’t get dressed up and we don’t give candy out. It’s a day where we celebrate our life and our God.

We have games, rides, and food for all our kids.

The kids enjoy a beautiful play, bouncy houses and if it doesn’t rain we even have a petting zoo. I wish I would have had this growing up and that’s one of the many reasons I love my church. I want Bella and sissy to enjoy every day because it is a day the Lord created. And when they are older, who knows maybe we will make October 31st a family day and skip school.

Like everything in life, this is our alternative way.

This is not to say you are doing wrong or that I’m doing it wrong, but just like anything in else parenting, we each have our own style and this is ours.

This is how we have chosen to raise our children.

Thank you for reading this and feel free to email me or leave a comment if you have any questions.

Chemical Free Laundry Scent Booster

This post contains affiliate links! Thanks for supporting my blog.

essential oil, young living

I’m all about saving money and I have mentioned it on here before but something I don’t skimp on is my family’s health. I made the switch to essential oils about 8 months ago and has saved my life and a few bucks too!

Im still learning but I wanted to answer one of the most asked questions I get.

What else do you use them for?

Let me be very honest, the oils are not cheap. I think that’s the main reason it took me so long to finally sign up. Now 8 months later I regret that decision full heartedly. I wish I had done it sooner! They don’t work like the oils you buy at the store! Most people make the mistake of buying them and thinking they’ll work the same way! They dont!

There are so many ways to use them that I couldn’t possibly list them in one post, but I today I want to share just one of their many uses aside from diffusing,

Laundry Scent Booster.

I make a huge batch and it lasts me up to 3 weeks or more and the cost is about $1.50 or less for the batch. Since I use the oils for other areas in my home it would be a bit difficult to calculate the exact amount but I’m very positive is even less than that!

Here is what you need:

An airtight container like this one or this.(comes in a set of 2) Great deal!

15 Drops of the Essential oils of your choice. (I use Lemon and Purification)

2 cups of Epsom Salts ( you can get yours at your local store cheaper)

1/2 cup of Baking Soda  (Great Price) I also use this for my carpet cleaner!

That is it!

Check the video below for the instructions and feel free to comment below or email me if you have any questions!
