A fun afternoon with Outshine: Adult and Child Approved

Time is surely flying by, we are in May and before we know it summer will be here! In the meantime we are loving this weather, always breezy and comfortable enough to spend the days outside, and we have been doing just that.

Almost every day this week as soon as the kids leave we turn on the bouncy house and Bella jumps her little heart out while we wait for daddy to get home. Soaking in the afternoon sun with a good snack before dinner. Lester works long hours more often than not so we have a lite snack before dinner while he relaxes a bit. We are also in the process of potty training Bella so you can find us outside until we are done with that adventure!

Bella, like every kid in this world, can live off snacks and never have a bite of regular food, oh and milk of course. We have actually discussed getting a cow just for her but sadly we discovered that our backyard in not big enough. Totally kidding but really please tell me I’m not alone in this?

Monday afternoon we had some family coming over so we decided it was the perfect time to give our snack a different spin. If you follow us on Instagram you have seen too many of my stories that include an Outshine coconut fruit bar so when deciding what to have that afternoon we knew exactly what we were going to serve.

What’s great about Outshine fruit bar is that they include so much fruit and juice that as parents we can feel safe feeding them to our kids and they are gluten free.

For adults is just as good. The calorie intake is minimal and always hits the spot specially during the hot summer months.
And honestly I love that I can have a very delicious snack and not ruin my healthy day. Click here for more facts about these yummy fruit bars.

Work in process: the mom bod

Yes, you read right, The mom bod.
I know what you are thinking, what bod?  But think about what we just did?
We gave birth to a new set of dreams, to a tiny little human, to our whole world, so yes mama, you have an awesome bod!

Forget the number on the scale or your jeans, you just rocked it and you continue rocking it whether breastfeeding or formula feeding you are living on less than 2 hours of consecutive sleep.
But, in reality, that doesn’t stop us from wanting our pre-baby body back.

I’m guilty!
From day one I got on the scale and the number scared me crazy and I did nothing. I thought that because I was breastfeeding I had an ace up my sleeve and the weight was magically going to melt off.
Obviously, it didn’t!

I didn’t walk, exercise or do anything relatively close to that so that weight held on tight. Fast forward a year, I stopped breastfeeding and some of the weight did come off but I still had more than 10lbs to lose.

Now let me be clear, there is no problem with the extra pounds if you are happy and comfortable with your body but in the moment you step back in the pictures, or skip out on family time because is at the pool then, there is a problem.
I had that moment after a family trip to the beach. I didn’t let my husband upload one picture we took because I didn’t like how I looked.

But there is really not an ” I went to the gym and the pounds melted off” happy ending I hate exercising and going to the gym so what does one do?

It’s simple, do what you love and what you find entertaining.

In, my case it meant doing it at home, making it fun and doing it with my family that way I had ZERO excuses. Here is what I did:

1. Improve my eating habits.
I’ve always heard that a good diet is a key and I hated it because I love to eat but I saw the biggest change in my body when I cut carbs for 4 weeks.  Now, we have a lot of spaghetti squash or mashed cauliflower and we can’t bearly taste the difference. Also, I have implemented portion control!

2. Drink more water.
I don’t love water but I have been adding Young Living lemon drops to my water and it has been a big plus. I also add strawberries and even cucumbers so I don’t get bored

3.  Always be prepared for the monthly visitor.
Each month we get a lovely visitor who kind of puts a damper on routine so being prepared for this is always a plus, and U by Kotex Fitness has our back! Their new line fits around our curves and supports our necessities during that especial time. It comes in a very compact box and its new design is even more protective. You can learn more here and even have some fun. Don’t forget to grab a $2 iBotta coupon for your purchase.

Hope these tips help! Get out there and enjoy your little one.

And know that we are all a work in progress in many areas of our life, keep at it and you will see and feel the results.

How to Take Your Own Family Pictures

In our house, we love pictures, all of us which comes to a surprise as most husbands really hate it but my husband loves taking pictures and I can’t complain. As much of a clique as it sounds, I love the idea of freezing time and most of the situations that moment is also frozen in your mind and heart, especially when kids are involved.

Time goes by too fast, and count me in to freeze it as often as possible, hence the reason why we try to take as many pictures as possible. Now, being completely honest who has the money for that? Who can really afford to have their picture taken every month? So we have come up with a way of taking our own pictures. Whether you want inside or outside here are a few tips that have helped our family

1. Get a tripod.
Tripods come in all size but make sure the one you get is tall and very sturdy. Some cameras weigh more than others so you want to make sure it holds your camera. Ours holds mine, my husbands, and even our video camera.

2. Have the right settings.
In my book setting it to automatic works, but according to my husband Manual is the key to great pictures. So he recommends to take a few pictures here and there and adjust the WB and Shutter speed according to your surroundings. Don’t know anything about shooting in manual? As always check pinterest for the best tips.
You can also use Picmonkey.com  to edit your pictures for free.

3.Get to know your camera.
Every camera has a timer function and that button lets you choose how many images per shot and how much time in between each shot. We usually do 3 pictures with a 5-second lapse in between. With this option, you can choose where to look, to smile, to make funny faces or simply to give your child the option to have a tantrum. (It happens)

4. If you live in the south and are shooting outside you’ll thank me for this next tip. Buy a remote.
Guys this is something we didn’t know about. My poor husband would run back and forth to the camera pressing the timer button 3 to 5 times to be able to get 4 or 5 good pictures. Yes, it takes a while. Out of 15 picture, we sometimes get 1 good one or sometimes get 6 and that’s worth it.
This remote is for my camera and this one is for my husbands.

5. Have an outfit change.
This matters. Sometimes clothes don’t photograph as well as you think and having that option is the world. Also in Texas is super hot no matter the time of year so change that sweaty shirt (eww) and go on with the show.
This also a plus if you want to use your pictures for two different occasions!

6. Have fun.
It’s simple but yet so hard. Toddlers sometimes don’t want to cooperate, the camera may auto-adjust itself or even blur you out and that’s ok, but remember why you are doing it in the first place. Once you see the pictures you’ll be very glad you did it.

7. Have treats available.
This should really be number one if you have kids. We pack clean treats. Veggie Fries or gummy bears! No lollipops!! They get sticky and they get lollipop color! If you got  TODDLER you know what I mean. Same goes with fruit, sadly! We have tried apples and the slobbery mess is too much to handle! So just for this one time make their day! It will show in your pictures.

Hope you enjoy this post and try it out with your clan!
